There are over 200 million women and girls that have been affected by female genital mutilation globally, and 20 million of them are Nigerian, especially from the southern part. In May of this year, The McGinnity Family Foundation (MFF) awarded a grant to Devatop Centre for Africa Development to help combat this horrific practice.
Devatop Centre for Africa Development (DCAD) is a youth-led nonprofit organization with focus on combating human trafficking, gender-based violence, providing educational supports to vulnerable children and empowering women and young people to be agents of national development. The funding from MFF will be earmarked for the Devatop Centre’s Red Card2FGM Campaign, which aims to increase the increase awareness of the dangers of female genital mutilation and stimulate young people to act collectively to the abandonment of the practice.
