The Milwaukee Food Council (MFC) is a coalition of diverse stakeholders committed to building a food system that is healthy, ecologically sustainable, economically vibrant, culturally relevant and socially just.  With the support of the McGinnity Family Foundation, MFC will host a Youth Food Conference on Saturday, October 20th at Havenwoods State Forest and Nature Center. The event will highlight young food leaders who are transforming the local food system, connect interested youth to food leadership opportunities in the city and continue to identify key strategic areas for systems change in our local food chain.

The agenda for the day includes:

  • 9:00-9:45 am            Breakfast and Networking
  • 9:45-10:15 am          MFC welcome and Keynote speaker
  • 10:15 -12:30 pm       Youth Presentations
  • 12:30- 1:00 pm         Youth and Organization panel with Q&A

MFC is seeking applications from young people (16-25) who are actively engaged in good food activities – from composting and gardening to starting local restaurants or food businesses.  Presenters will be awarded a $50 stipend for their presentation.  Applications are due September 28th and can be found here. If you know of young food leaders who are already making an impact in the city who would be interested in giving a presentation, or young people who may be interested to start their own food-based business/endeavor, please share the application form with them.
